I love all of this! I’m just gathering the balls to start diving into freelancing. I NEED a side gig to help support myself and four children. I waffled around too much last year (but was also working on a book with a publishing contract with another local author). Realistically, freelancing is where I need to invest effort at least until the kids have all graduated.
I have at least 3 other books in the works, and was planning on self-punishing on Amazon vs shopping them around. I’m wondering what you think about self publishing vs the traditional publishing route?
Definitely going to be reading the articles you linked here!
"self-punishing on Amazon" made me laugh OUT LOUD.
Self-pub vs traditional publishing is a loaded topic. I have a LOT to say on that.
*Makes note to do next newsletter on this topic*
In the meantime, if you can answer a few questions, it will help me tailor the response:
What types of books are they?
Have they been professionally edited?
Have you ever been published before?
What's your "online following" look like? (Your author platform/reach?)
How involved in book promotion do you want to be? (What do you envision?)
Thanks so much for reading and commenting. Freelancing is a great way to supplement your income! Right now, a couple of months after the whole ChatAGT thing, freelancers are tailspinning right now, some even losing work. (I've lost 30-40% of my income in a few months!). I wrote about that here: https://medium.com/better-marketing/writers-we-need-to-talk-about-ai-a0255ce0448b
