You may have seen me writing this past month about AI. This is something that concerns all of us writers who make a living writing for clients. I have lost nearly 40% of my income since the roll-out of ChatAGT, only to later learn that the company that stopped ordering from me is looking at AI to produce their content moving forward.
OUCH
I wonder how AI will affect one of my favorite writing platforms— Medium.com. Well, Medium has a new feature that may just help tip the scales for us humans.
One thing we writers on Medium do is analyze the performance of our pieces. With the recent roll-out of this new Medium feature, called Boosting, many of us are watching for signs that our work has been selected for a Boost and what that may mean for our earnings. Zulie Rane recently talked about this new feature and how her Boosted articles are performing so much better—viral performance, to be clear.
So far, I have not seen any indication from my stats page that anything I have written has been Boosted.
I’m also concerned that, according to my stats, reading ratios are way down for me:
February Round-Up
In February 2023 I published 11 articles:
I Did NOT Get the Job — Here’s What I Learned (Top performer)
Dear Content Writers: You Are Using Social Media Messaging Wrong
These were published in:
Better Advice
In Fitness and in Health
ILLUMINATION
Better Marketing
The Partnered Pen
The next thing you’ll see coming down the pike for me is an article detailing my February articles, a reveal of my February income on Medium, and discussion on the new Boost feature, published in ILLUMINATION. I hope you’ll check it out.
Love you all,

If a story gets boosted, you won't be able to tell by the general stats page, but it shows on the story stats page. Not everyone will experience what Zulie says. I've had a boosted story that only did a small bloop more than normal. I wouldn't have known it was boosted by the overall stats, but the story stats page says it was. It reminds me of the old curation days, ie did they 'boost' it for one tag or several? Into email or just on one tag page? No idea. They don't give enough details, but that's probably intentional.
